U.S. Rig Count: +22 to 1,882

The weekly Baker Hughes rig count showed a 22 rig increase, bringing the national rig count to 1,882.  Oil rigs increased by 19 to 1,003, gas rigs increased by three to 873 and miscellaneous rigs were unchanged at six.  The number of oil rigs is at by far the highest level since 1987 (the beginning point of the data BHI provides).  By type, horizontal rigs were up 20 to 1,081, vertical rigs were up seven to 565 and directional rigs were down five to 236.

In the Haynesville Shale region, inclusive of other formations, the count was down four to 145.  North Louisiana (97)  and east Texas (48) were both down two.  This is the lowest level since early October 2009.
