Shreveport Natgas Buses Get Funding

Shreveport's SporTran Transit system has been granted and will soon receive $5 million from the Federal stimulus package to purchase five new natural gas buses, build a CNG filling station and implement other improvements. I've previously noted the plan for natgas buses and it's good to see funding for the project.

Much has been said about the federal stimulus program, but to me this is a win-win project for all involved. Shreveport gets new infrastructure, a new CNG public transportation project is implemented (a cheaper and more environmentally friendly fuel), and Shreveport area residents won't have to smell more stinky diesel buses.
